I first heard Alejandro Escovedo two years ago at the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival. He rocked my world. So, I couldn't pass up the chance to see him at my favorite venue, Bimbo's. Turns out he used to live in SF and he played with a punk band called the Nuns who toured with the Sex Pistols. Who knew? And ... his niece is Sheila E. Cool.

Carrie Rodriguez and her kick-butt band opened. She reminded me a lot of Lucinda Williams.

Um, I knew that. Saw the Nuns many times, including when they opened for what turned out to be the last Sex Pistols show at Winterland. 1978? Sheesh. Also look for his '80s bands Rank and File and True Believers, both great.

Yep. 1978. He talked about that show. Very cool!
